Adapt or restart a routine · S3.17

Create a smaller routine for busy days

Your usual routine does not fit days with extra demands.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the part of the routine you most want to keep and the part that can wait.
  2. Write a smaller version that fits a difficult day, including permission to pause when even that is too much.
  3. Choose a clear cue for switching versions, such as an unexpected appointment or less time than usual.

An example

On a busy evening I’ll put the essentials in my bag; the full desk tidy can wait.

Reflect

Did the smaller version reduce the demand or still feel excessive?

Next time

Revise the fallback instead of treating it as a test of resilience.
