Choose comfort and preferences about touch · S4.17
State a preference about touch or pressure
An offered comfort involves contact that may or may not suit you.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Identify whether you want contact, no contact, or a different kind of support.
- State the preference directly and allow yourself to change it.
- Choose a non-contact alternative when preferred; you do not need pressure to justify or resolve a feeling.
An example
I would prefer some space rather than a hug right now.
Reflect
Was your preference understood and respected?
Next time
Communicate changes instead of assuming prior consent continues.
