Choose comfort and preferences about touch · S6.9

Choose a small comfort

Harsh self-talk is making an already difficult moment harder.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the immediate difficulty in a simple sentence without adding a self-insult.
  2. Choose an available comfort you normally like, such as a drink, a familiar sound, a softer seat, or quiet.
  3. Give yourself permission to use it without having to feel better afterward. Then decide whether anything else needs attention.

An example

This conversation was hard. I will sit somewhere quieter before deciding how to respond.

Reflect

Was the comfort welcome, neutral, or unwelcome?
