Make care and meaningful activity practical · S6.12

Separate needing support from blaming yourself

You want help with present-day self-blame after a difficult experience.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write what you need now, such as company, privacy, practical help, or a professional conversation; you do not need to describe the experience.
  2. Notice whether your wording adds blame for needing support. Replace that part with a straightforward request.
  3. Choose whether and with whom to share the request. Keep details private if that is what you prefer.

An example

I can say, 'I am having a hard time today and would appreciate company,' without explaining the past.

Reflect

Does the request state your need without demanding a justification?

Next time

Revisit the support you want as circumstances change.
