Respond fairly to a mistake or setback · S1.1

Find a next step after a setback

Something did not go as planned, and you want to decide what to do next.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write one sentence describing what happened, without judging your character.
  2. Name what was difficult and one part you can influence now.
  3. Choose one small next step. Pausing or asking for help can be a next step.

An example

“I missed the application deadline. I'm disappointed. I can ask when the next round opens.”

Reflect

What feels clearer, and what remains difficult?

Next time

Return to your next step when you are ready and decide whether it still fits.
