Name a feeling or a current need · S9.1

Put a feeling into words

You want to describe your current experience without having to solve it immediately.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Pause and choose one or two words that roughly fit how you feel.
  2. If naming a feeling is difficult, describe a thought or sensation instead.
  3. Complete “Right now I notice…” and leave room for mixed or uncertain feelings.

An example

“Right now I notice disappointment and some relief. I am not sure which is stronger.”

Reflect

Do those words fit, or would different words be closer?

Next time

You can revise the words later; the first description does not need to be exact.
