Respond fairly to a mistake or setback · D2.13

Use a fairer tone with yourself

You notice that your self-talk is harsh after a mistake.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write down one harsh sentence you have been telling yourself.
  2. Keep any useful fact and remove insults or sweeping labels.
  3. Add one sentence about what you can do next or what support you need.

An example

“I am useless” becomes “I missed a detail. I can correct it and make a note to check it next time.”

Reflect

Does the revised sentence feel fair and believable?

Next time

Aim for accuracy and fairness rather than forcing praise.
