Respond fairly to a mistake or setback · S5.9
Respond fairly when your actions miss a value
You acted differently from what you intended and want to consider repair without attacking yourself.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Name the value, the action, and any actual impact.
- Describe the circumstances without using them to erase responsibility or condemn your whole character.
- Choose one repair, clarification, or adjustment that is possible now.
An example
I wanted to listen but interrupted. I can acknowledge that and ask whether they want to finish their point.
Reflect
Does the response include both responsibility and realistic limits?
Next time
A value is a direction to return to, not proof that you must act perfectly.
