Make room for an activity or break · S10.15

Use a change of activity as a thinking break

You have been circling a problem and want to step away before revisiting it.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write the unresolved question so you do not have to hold it in mind.
  2. Choose a brief, ordinary change of activity that suits your access and comfort, such as standing, looking out a window, or getting a drink.
  3. Return when you choose and read the question again before deciding the next step.

An example

I note 'Which version should we send?' and get a drink before reviewing the options.

Reflect

Did the break change your approach, or do you need additional information?

Next time

Choose the kind of break that fits you; movement is optional.
