Find what matters in a choice · S5.8

Notice values in a past decision

You want to understand what mattered in a decision you have already made.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose a manageable past decision and describe the context.
  2. Name the needs or values that influenced it, including competing ones and constraints.
  3. Write what you would keep or consider differently now without requiring the experience to have been beneficial.

An example

I chose the shorter commute because time at home mattered, though I missed some opportunities at work.

Reflect

What does the decision show about the context as well as your priorities?

Next time

Debrief with a trusted person if another perspective would help.
