Find what matters in a choice · S5.1

Find words for what matters to you

You want to name personal values in language that feels like your own.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Recall an ordinary moment when something mattered to you, whether it went well or was missing.
  2. Name the quality involved, such as fairness, care, independence, learning, or belonging.
  3. Describe what that word means in action for you. Keep more than one value if a single word is too narrow.

An example

Fairness means hearing from the people affected before deciding.

Reflect

Do the words fit your priorities or sound like expectations you inherited?

Next time

Discuss an example with someone you trust if useful; the values list can change.
