Leave room for an unanswered question

You feel pressure to settle an issue before you have enough information.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write what you know and what remains uncertain in separate lines.
  2. Identify whether a decision is needed now. If so, choose a practical step that can be revised where possible.
  3. Write what information or event would make it useful to revisit the question.

An example

I do not know whether the plan will change. I can prepare the part that will be needed either way.

Reflect

What uncertainty could remain without preventing the next practical step?

Next time

You do not have to like uncertainty or treat conflicting claims as equally supported.
