Learn about a task by trying a small piece

Thinking about a task has not shown you how it will work in practice.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose a small, reversible part that you can try without committing to the whole task.
  2. Make a rough example, demonstration, sketch, or trial using materials you already have.
  3. Note what the trial showed: a missing resource, an unclear step, or something that worked. Use that information to choose the next step.

An example

Before formatting all the pages, I’ll try one page and check whether the layout works.

Reflect

What did doing the small piece reveal that planning alone did not?

Next time

Keep the rough trial as a reference or change the approach before expanding it.
