Define the part of a problem you can work on

A problem feels too broad to turn into an action.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Describe the problem in one observable sentence.
  2. Separate what you can act on, what requires another person's participation, and what is outside your control.
  3. Choose one action from the first category or one request from the second.

An example

The shared files are hard to find. I can label my folder and ask the team to agree on a naming rule.

Reflect

Does the action address a real part of the problem?

Next time

Review the result before deciding whether a larger change is needed.
