Compare immediate and later consequences
A quick option is appealing but you want to consider the full choice.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Name the options, including delaying a decision if that is possible.
- For each, list likely immediate benefits and costs, then later benefits and costs.
- Choose using the consequences and priorities that matter in this situation, marking uncertain outcomes as uncertain.
An example
Replying now may clear the message but risk missing details; waiting until I can read it may improve accuracy but delay the answer.
