Keep breathing attention optional · S15.3
Choose an alternative to breath-focused attention
A breathing exercise does not suit you right now.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Identify a neutral external focus you prefer, such as a visible shape or ordinary sound.
- State the preference to anyone guiding the activity.
- Use that focus or opt out without changing your breathing to meet an instruction.
An example
I would rather notice the room than count breaths.
Reflect

Next time
