Say no and define a boundary · S8.5
Choose a practical next step for a limit
A recurring situation needs more than a general wish that things would change.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Describe one specific behavior or request you want to address.
- Write the limit and one action you can take yourself if the situation continues.
- Choose an appropriate way to communicate or implement it, with support if needed. Avoid promising an action you cannot take.
An example
I cannot answer nonurgent messages during the meeting. I’ll reply afterward.
Reflect
Is the next step within your control and suited to the situation?
Next time
Review the arrangement after it is tried rather than measuring success only by the other person’s agreement.
