Handle disagreement or take a pause · D5.7

Address an ordinary misunderstanding

A conversation left a misunderstanding that both people may be willing to clarify.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Ask whether this is a suitable time to revisit the exchange.
  2. Describe your understanding and invite theirs without insisting on a single account immediately.
  3. Acknowledge your contribution where appropriate and agree on one practical next step, if possible.

An example

I thought the plan was tentative. It sounds as though you understood it as confirmed. Can we clarify the next date?

Reflect

What was clarified, and where do your accounts still differ?

Next time

A conversation can end with unresolved disagreement; connection cannot be repaired by one person alone.
