Separate facts, predictions and interpretations · D1.4
Write a balanced alternative to a thought
A particular interpretation is guiding what you plan to do.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Write the situation, your interpretation, and the evidence you are relying on.
- Add relevant facts that the interpretation leaves out, including uncertainty and genuine difficulties.
- Write an alternative that fits all the facts and choose an action consistent with it.
An example
One reviewer disliked the introduction; the others have not commented. I can ask what was unclear before rewriting everything.
Reflect
Is the alternative believable rather than merely reassuring?
Next time
Review the action's result when it provides new information.
