Express feelings or needs through art · D7.4

Use a symbol for a present need

You want an indirect way to express what you need without recounting a difficult experience.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose a present need such as space, support, privacy, or connection.
  2. Draw or select a symbol that represents that need to you, without depicting past events.
  3. Add words or keep it private; you may stop at any point.

An example

I draw a doorway to represent wanting control over when a conversation starts and ends.

Reflect

Does the symbol fit the need you want to express?

Next time

If sharing, explain your meaning rather than inviting others to diagnose the image.
