Make room for feelings without judgment · D2.17

Update your response as a feeling changes

Your emotional response is shifting during an ordinary situation.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the feeling you noticed earlier and what you notice now, allowing uncertainty.
  2. Check whether the situation, your information, or your needs have changed.
  3. Choose a response suited to the current situation rather than continuing the earlier response automatically.

An example

I was annoyed about a delay; after learning the reason, I am concerned and want to ask what help is needed.

Reflect

Did the changed response fit new information rather than pressure to feel differently?

Next time

Keep room to revise your response without requiring emotional ease.
