Make room for feelings without judgment · D3.16

Acknowledge your own experience accurately

You are dismissing your reaction before understanding it.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the feeling or difficulty in ordinary words.
  2. Identify relevant context that helps explain the reaction without proving every interpretation correct.
  3. Offer yourself a fair statement and decide what the situation needs next.

An example

I am disappointed because I invested time in this plan. I can acknowledge that and still ask what changed.

Reflect

Does the statement recognize your experience without turning it into a verdict on others?

Next time

Use context rather than automatic reassurance when a similar reaction occurs.
