Separate facts, predictions and interpretations · D1.13

Separate an event from your first thought

Your first interpretation of an everyday event feels certain.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write what you directly observed.
  2. Write the thought that followed as “My first thought was…”.
  3. Name one question you could check before treating the thought as a fact.

An example

“The message has no reply. My first thought was that they are annoyed. I do not yet know whether they have seen it.”

Reflect

What is known, and what remains an interpretation?
