Prepare for a predictable situation · D1.12

Rehearse support for a future everyday situation

You want to picture how to handle an upcoming ordinary interaction.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose a future, low-stakes situation and identify the part you want to prepare for.
  2. Imagine or write your own helpful action or request, without scripting how other people must respond.
  3. Return to the actual setting and choose one preparation you can make now; skip imagery if you prefer words.

An example

Before asking for clarification, I write, 'Could you show me one example of the result you want?'

Reflect

Which part of the rehearsal is within your control?

Next time

Adapt the wording when the real situation differs.
