Prepare for a predictable situation · D3.20
Prepare a first response and a fallback
You anticipate a challenging but ordinary situation and want a short plan.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Describe the likely situation and the part you can reasonably prepare for.
- Write your first response and rehearse it in words if useful.
- Add a fallback for changed circumstances, including asking for clarification, support, or a pause.
An example
If the meeting moves to a topic I have not prepared, I can say, 'I need to check that before giving an answer.'
Reflect
Does the fallback allow for uncertainty rather than assuming the plan will work perfectly?
Next time
Afterward, keep the useful part and revise the rest.
