Adapt the task or ask for work support · S2.15

Clarify a shared task with feedback

You and another person may have different understandings of what needs doing.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Describe the task, expected result, and current uncertainty in concrete terms.
  2. Ask the other person to explain what they need or what they understood, and compare the two descriptions.
  3. Agree on one next action, who owns it, and when to check back. Write down any disagreement that remains.

An example

I thought you needed the draft today. Do you need the finished version or just the outline?

Reflect

What became clearer, and what still needs a decision?

Next time

Use the agreed description at the next check-in rather than assuming the task stayed the same.
