Learn from a small everyday test · D1.10

Test a low-stakes assumption

You have an everyday assumption that can be checked with a small, reversible action.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. State the assumption and what result would count as evidence for or against it.
  2. Choose a low-risk test that respects other people's consent and privacy.
  3. Record the result and qualify the conclusion: one attempt may answer only part of the question.

An example

I think a shorter subject line will be easier for my team to scan. I ask a colleague to compare two sample versions.

Reflect

Did the test measure the assumption or something else?

Next time

Revise the test if its result was ambiguous rather than forcing a conclusion.
