Show interest without giving up your position

You want a respectful conversation even where you disagree.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

1. Ask about the other person's view and give them room to answer.
2. Reflect a part you can accurately understand or acknowledge.
3. State your own position or limit in a respectful, direct way; a warm tone is optional, agreement is not required.

I understand why the short deadline matters to you. I can deliver one section then, but not the full report.
