State a need or make a request · D5.8

Make a specific request

You want to ask for help with an ordinary task.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the task and the kind of help you would find useful.
  2. Ask for one specific action, including timing if it matters.
  3. Leave room for the other person to say no or suggest another arrangement.

An example

“Could you read the first paragraph with me this evening? If today does not work, please let me know.”

Reflect

Was the request specific enough for the other person to respond?

Next time

Use the response to choose another plan if needed.
