Turn a value into a practical action · S10.3

Change the method while keeping the purpose

Your usual approach is blocked, but the underlying purpose still matters.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the purpose or value your current method serves.
  2. List two different ways to serve that purpose under present constraints.
  3. Choose a feasible method and explain the purpose if others need to understand the change.

An example

I value staying in touch. If a long visit is not possible, I can ask whether a short call would suit us.

Reflect

Did you preserve the purpose or discover that it also needs reconsidering?

Next time

Evaluate the method by whether it serves the purpose, not by whether it matches the old routine.
