Offer support while keeping limits · D5.16

Offer help with a choice

You want to support someone without deciding for them.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Ask whether help would be welcome.
  2. Offer one or two specific options you can realistically provide.
  3. Let the person choose, decline, or suggest something different.

An example

“Would help be useful? I could sit with you while you make the list, or pick up one item later.”

Reflect

Did the offer leave room for the person’s preferences?

Next time

Check again if circumstances change rather than assuming the same help is still wanted.
