Notice a thought without following it · S10.11
Notice a familiar thought without starting the whole argument again
A repeated thought is pulling you into the same unproductive debate.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Label it in ordinary language: 'This is the familiar worry about...'
- Ask whether there is new information or a practical decision to address now.
- If yes, address that item; if no, choose where to place attention next without needing to settle the thought.
An example
I am rereading the same criticism. There is no new information, so I will return to the requested revision.
Reflect
Did you identify an actual task or simply a repeated thought?
Next time
Reuse the distinction when it is helpful; recurrence is not a failure.
