Return after distraction or interruption · S2.12

Name what is pulling you away from a task

Part of you wants to work on something while another concern keeps drawing your attention.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write what you want to do and the competing concern in separate sentences.
  2. Ask what each concern needs: information, rest, reassurance, a limit, help, or something else.
  3. Choose a practical arrangement that acknowledges both, such as a smaller work period, a question to ask, or a planned pause.

An example

I want to finish, but I’m worried I misunderstood the instructions. I’ll check one requirement before continuing.

Reflect

Did the arrangement address the competing concern or leave it unresolved?

Next time

Seek clarification or support if the concern cannot be handled by changing the work plan.
