Imagine a response, resource or future direction · D6.3

Imagine a different next response to an everyday setback

You want to prepare for a similar situation without changing the facts of the past.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose a manageable everyday setback and state what actually happened.
  2. Imagine or write one response you could choose if a similar situation occurred again.
  3. Keep the useful response while leaving the original event unchanged; skip painful memories.

An example

If I miss another instruction, I can ask for it to be repeated rather than guess.

Reflect

Is the imagined response realistic and within your control?

Next time

Try the wording only when a suitable situation occurs.
